Final Fantasy XIV: Official Site Update is on the Way

The first round of testing is just around the corner, and for some people that means that Final Fantasy XIV is holding much more mental real estate than the just-released Final Fantasy XIII. All things considered, information is likely to start coming fast and furious as soon as the testing opens, but some advance copies of Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation have made their way into the hands of people who just can't wait another day. FFXIVCore has helpfully translated the information available, which already paints an interesting picture of how the game will play.

Fighting is confirmed to be on the move, with a strong emphasis on positioning and MP conservation. We've also got some picture of how the classes will play, with Pugilists inheriting a workalike to Provoke and Gladiators inheriting Phalanx and Shield Bash, albeit with different characteristics. There's also talk about Miners and Blacksmiths working in parties, pointing out utility for gathering or crafting disciplines in groups. We've also got a little information on the Illusionist, meaning most likely that an official site update is on the way. With testing beginning soon, expect Final Fantasy XIV information to become more and more available -- but what we're hearing so far definitely sounds like a good ride.

$3.8 billion on MMO gaming in 2009 for Americans

Do you feel like you spent a lot on MMOs last year? Well, you're not alone. It's no secret that the MMO industry is a huge one, and all of those box sales, Steam downloads, sub fees, and item shop purchases added up to a pretty impressive number.

Gamasutra reported today that MMO gamers in the US spent $3.8 billion on their hobby in 2009. What's interesting about this figure is that it follows the trend you find in free-to-play games these days: of the 46 million Americans playing MMOs, only 46% of them spent any money at all on games. The rest, approximately 25 million, were completely free-to-play. Even so, American gamers are clearly more enthusiastic about opening their wallets for games than other countries, with the total coming to about 15 times more than any European MMO market.

Game Update 16 will continue the trend of GCW focused development, this time bringing a number of additions to the often overlooked space component of SWG. With the introduction of Region Defender in GU16, guilds and cities will be able to hold their ground in "148 theaters of operation, spanning 10 planets and 8 space zones." Other space additions include new commands to flag yourself for PvP in space, a boost to space weapons, and new repeatable high-end content for players to enjoy.

Final Fantasy XIV: Single in-game Screenshot

SteveManly over at FFXIVCore has come across a cornucopia of information and images of Final Fantasy XIV from this month's issue of Famitsu.

An interview with Square Enix's battle director Atsushi Okada and planners Sei Sato and Kenichi Iwao discusses a number of topics ranging from the role of elements in FFXIV, to the importance of distance in combat, to how MP replenishment will work.

There is also a breakdown of a number of the game's Jobs including descriptions of their abilities and comments from the developers themselves. The jobs outlined include: Conjurer, Thaumaturge, Blacksmith, Miner, Pugilist and Archer.

Screenshots from the VanaFest 2010 opening trailer are also available, but what is most interesting is a single in-game screenshot that also features the game UI.

In all case, the problem won't arise if you add the Cedit Card to PayPal account, and use it as funding source to pay the transaction through PayPal account.
